GEITUS URANIUM DEPOSIT
USGS 1953-1954 141 drill holes were completed for an aggregate length of 28,971 feet UP & L 1985 179 drill holes were completed identifying 240,000 pounds of historical (non-JORC compliant) reserve Potential for a further 1 million pounds in extensions. * * * WCU holds a 100% interest in 7 tenements (6 Federal claims and 1 State lease) which extend over a total area of 196 ha (484 acres) in San Juan County, Utah. The current status of the Geitus project tenements is summarised below.
* ML = lease issued by the State of Utah, UMC = lode mining claim issued by Bureau of Land Management (US Dept of Interior) The Geitus Deposit was discovered by Utah Power & Light in exploration that concluded in the 1980s with an historical “reserve” calculation (details can be found in pages 12-15 of White Canyon's Dec 2007 IPO Prospectus). The deposit was not mined due to the fall in the uranium price at that time. It is accessed by established county roads and is 50 km west of the White Mesa Mill. As at Daneros, the Geitus Deposit is hosted within shallow dipping laminated sandstone units of the basal Shinarump Member of the Chinle Formation. The deposit is tabular, ranging up to several hundred metres in length and from 0.3 m to 4 m in thickness. The uranium mineralisation is associated with the contact between the Shinarump Member and the underlying Triassic Moenkopi Formation sedimentary sequence. |
